post cmj bleary
October 24, 2007
So folks, the CMJ music marathon 2007 has come and gone. I have to say, as much as I love many things about the marathon, I am so effing glad its over. The word I keep encountering that sums it up best is: clusterfuck.
I saw many good bands, met new friends, reconnected with old (one is silver, the other gold) and didn’t sleep. The low key, very well put together showcases at the Inaba music loft on Bowery ended up being my favorite shows during the week. I think it was something about the couches, the music, and the keg. Although jesus, was it sweaty in there.
I attended 2 panels at the Kimmel center at NYU. The audiophiles dissing on mp3s and praising wav files and true audio made me feel insane and now I am at a war with myself over whether to rip in wav format or as mp3s. there are bigger issues in the world, like, say the wildfires that are completely destroying southern california.
fuck, context.
I’ve Missed You
April 8, 2007
I’ve come out of hiding
Happy Easter, or whatevs
I am so excited for Bjorks’ new album. Also, did I hear something about new Feist sometime soon?
I am sitting in my studio. My finger operation was almost 2 weeks ago. I am feeling really hopeful. I am going to record this summer. CAN’T WAIT.
not snow!
February 10, 2007
It’s been a while – my apologies. This morning I tried to get up much too early for Saturday morning. For a few groggy minutes I was convinced that it must have snowed, because I could hear the plows outside my window. I finally mustered up enough lucidity to pull open my curtains to discover it was only the sound of so many garbage barrels being dragged around the street. Oh well.
I am half-way through Zadie Smith’s “White Teeth”, which is actually saying a lot since I read eighty pages of it in August and then it spent the months in between then and now wedged in the back of my bookshelf , serving only to keep some summer photos from bending.
I’m going to Colombia in a week and cannot wait.
Tonight I’m going to a party in which there will be heart shaped cookies, filled with jam. Baked by this lady. This sounds delicious. Maybe because I am so very hungry this morning.
I know its the time of year, but I am dreaming of springtime like never before. I am aching for my bike, for a trip.

I just put together the schedule for the next month or so of my show on BreakThruRadio.
Here it is. New shows air every Tuesday at noon and are available on the site forever after. Tune in next Tuesday for fucking incredible set by The Undisputed Heavyweights, then go see them yourself at Joe’s Pub on Thursday 1/25.
o’mat
January 16, 2007
A guy was hopelessly proselytizing in the laundromat today. I watched him talk to a mother and son for fifteen minutes while I folded t-shirts. He was quietly zealous, i wouldn’t say overly.
Rebecca Pronsky came into the studio over the weekend and recorded a session for my show on BTR. Click here to listen.
Here’s the link for The Big Sleep session.
I am wearing a t shirt and flip fops and the window is wide open. For real, this warmth is bewildering.
I destroyed my futon couch last night and decided a better option was to fold the heavy heavy deadweight futon (why so heavy, always?) and stick it on top of my pink garbage-day-in-front-of-cafe-lalo weird table. Its a much better couch!
Dishes still in the tub. Hot plate working like a charm, if a little salty around the edges. I have whiskey sours on the brain, don’t want to use my birthday black label/bushmills/knob creek. so i ask – which is preferable: jack or jim?
the hot seat
January 10, 2007
i’m back on the couch at the cafe with the fighting seats across from me. I don’t know what it is, but now there are two ladies across from me who are very sniffly and sort of not looking at eachother and being awkward and painful. I think I need to stop sitting here and try a seat out front.it’s suddenly freezing-ish in the city today and i wish i had my scarf.
The hot seats were just abandoned. Here they are. I hear its snowing. Is this true? I’m leaving this giant leather couch to find out.
Weekend Weekend Gas Gas Gas Gas
January 8, 2007
Its Monday! It smells like gas all over New York City! I was sitting at 14th street waiting for the 1 train and boy, did it smell like gas. Then I got to work and it turns out, boy, does it smell like gas. Everywhere! At least Con Ed is “looking into it”.
!Que Mysterious!
Had a glorious weekend that was all things weekends should be. Central Park on Saturday afternoon was completely unreal, and PACKED.
Busytown! My mourning dove came with me and spoke with the pigeons. He also supervised the people on the boats:
On Friday, The Big Sleep came into the studio and recorded a bunch of wonderful songs from their last album “Son of the Tiger”. I also interviewed the band. The music sounds incredible and they were really fun. These guys also just made it to the top of The Deli Magazine‘s Best of NYC 2006 Poll. Wooh! Tune into to BTR tomorrow starting at noon to hear The Big Sleep on my radio show (BTR Live Studio).
The New Year
January 2, 2007
Happy New Year!
I have a few resolutions but I think I’ll keep them to myself.
New Years Eve was a nice time. I had the pleasure of imbibing some homemade caipirinhas with cachaca straight from Brazil, and made with love. Potent.
Watched multiple fireworks from a rooftop in Brooklyn and had a fine time.
I am writing from a coffee shop and everything was going so well for the last 2 hours, until a couple entered this little back area of the cafe and are having a really super intense uncomfortable staring at the floor/eachother sad and weird time about 2 feet in front of me and their strange vibes are messing with my January 2nd bravado. God damn.
I will perservere!
